Draining the Filter
The fuel filter is located on the engine compartment bulkhead, to the right hand side of the engine.
Before renewing, any water in the filter must be drained: |

Removing and replacing the fuel filter

Next, clean the area around the filter and then unscrew the filter, catching the fuel spilt in the bowl you left in place. If the filter is stiff, an oil filter wrench can be used. Ensure that the rubber gasket came off with the filter. If not reach under the housing and prise it off.
Lubricate the new seal with a little fuel and screw the new one in place. Tighten firmly by hand. Ensure the drain tap at the bottom is closed, especially with fuel prices these days
Priming the fuel system
![]()
Loosen the bleed screw located on top of the fuel filter head, you will need a 10mm spanner for this. Pump the priming lever located under the lift pump until bubble free fuel come sout of the bleed screw and then tighten.
Switch on the ignition which activates the stop solenoid and continue priming until firm resistance is felt. To be honest, I have replaced 3 filters now and never noticed any difference in resistance. I just prime for a while then start it.
Start the engine with your foot firmly on the accelerator and job done.
