The new posts are being created at the company’s Land Rover plant in Solihull, where nearly 5,000 people currently work, the firm said.

They are in support of the company’s ambition to deliver “40 significant product actions over the next five years”.

It said these could include new models or derivatives of existing cars.

Des Thurlby, human resources director at JLR, said: “This is great news for Solihull. We shall be increasing the plant workforce by more than 25%

This is always a great event (see the photo gallery if you want an idea of the stalls & vehicles) but this year it is going to be even better as they are raising money for Help for Heroes.

This was its first year and it looks promising. The off-road course looked excellent, there were a good number of trade stands including some of the big names and lots of auto jumble.

Quite a few clubs had exhibts there as well and there was plenty to see.

The car firms latest filed accounts show they have secured a £600m bank facility that will enable them to keep trading until the end of next year.

JLR was within days of defaulting on its loans before it negotiated an extension with its syndicate of more than 20 banks.

JLR is still hoping the government will underwrite a £340m European Investment Bank loan which will be used to develop new models such as the 60 miles per gallon LRX concept vehicle.

The significantly revised and updated models feature new refined and powerful engines, completely redesigned interiors and a host of new technologies – all of which ensure greater customer value. The pricing structure will reflect the increase in the level of specification over the predecessor 2009 MY products.

The new 2010 model year line-up will all be on show at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this coming weekend from July 3-5. Land Rover will be offering Festival goers test drives of the Freelander 2 TD4_e, the world’s first SUV with intelligent stop-start technology – around the Goodwood estate, and will showcase its vehicles’ supreme capabilities on ‘Terrapod’ – the man-made off-road demonstration unit.

The Jumble started at 10am but we didn’t pitch up until an hour and a bit later as I really needed some extra sleep. By the time we did get there, people were already leaving after having nabbed some good bargains so I think next year I will get there on time.

There were more stalls than last year, with 3 big rows and some extra stalls round the top of the field. The usual range of bits were on sale from indicator lenses all the way up to complete gearboxes, trailers and Land Rovers.  I saw a nice double axle flatbed trailer with winch for £800. I didn’t look too closely in case I was tempted so can’t vouch for the condition but it looked pretty good.

As usual there were some lovely vehicles in the car park and dotted around. Although there were also some hideous monsters there as well.

Land Rover have announced two Limited Edition Models of their iconic Defender, Fire & Ice.

Coming this summer to 16 markets around the globe, but not the US or UK, are two limited edition models in either the 90 or 110 Station Wagon body styles.

Both are eye catching in the same way a garden cane is when you are bending down to pull up a weed, and are only available for the foreign market.

Packed with as much bling and features Land Rover could possibly fit into a standard Ford Transit powered Defender, and sporting a Vesuvius metallic orange lacquer with a Santorini metallic black roof, the Fire model will certainly look good outside the school gates. While the more subtle “Alaskan white” Ice model contrasts with the same black roof for a cooler look.

On the inside, the Defender cabins feature colour-matched centre consoles, contrast stitching on the steering wheel, seats and storage compartment, and floormats add to the unique feel. The Recaro bucket seats combine black leather with gray Alcantara centre panels and headrests with an embossed Land Rover logo.

Despite their limited nature (and appeal?), there are still plenty of customer options to raise the ticket price including: A-frame protection bar, a raised snorkel, ribbed aluminium skidplates, aluminum wing top protectors, black checker plate protection, a luggage rack, and a roof sports bar system.

Both models come packed with all the features you would need for serious off-roading, such as:

• Leather & Alcantra trim (and how hard wearing is the latter?)

• Colour-coded lights

Only available for the foreign market, Land Rover commented “We don’t believe there’s a strong enough market for them – especially a ‘premium’ Defender in an economic downturn.”

Available in three model options: 90 Hard Top, 90 Station Wagon and 110 Station Wagon and starting at €31,800 on the French market, the 850 vehicles will be available in : Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hong kong, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine.

Land Rover has announced its support of the British & Irish Lions in a deal that will see the manufacturer as the “Official Vehicle of the British & Irish Lions 2009″ for the forthcoming summer Tour of South Africa.

Land Rover will provide a fleet of the supremely capable Discovery 3 vehicles for during the UK preparations and then throughout the two month tour of  South Africa. The vehicles will provide an essential role transporting the players, support staff and kit in comfort.

Chief Executive of the British & Irish Lions, John Feehan, commented, “We are delighted to have this support from Land Rover. Acquiring the backing of such a reputable supplier, that will be an undoubted asset to the squad and our Tour, has been very important to us.”

With a long and established relationship with the British & Irish teams, providing vehicles for both the 2001 & 2005 tours to Australia and new Zealand, Land Rover is again reinforcing its commitment to rugby.
